Suchit Basnet and Badri Chaudhary, our leaders and ornithologists have found small population of Rufous-vented Prinia in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. At the moment, the Nepal Rare Birds Committee which is headed by famous ornithologist Mrs Carol Inskipp is investigating subspecific status of the bird.

Discovery of this species by Suchit and Badri has added one more bird for Koshi (now at a high total of 485 birds) and for Nepal (now the total is 863!).

Dr Hem Sagar Baral, founding member of our organization and a well known ornithologist was awarded the prestigious Whitely Award by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne of the United Kingdom on 20 April 2005. The Award was given to recognise and support Hem's work in Phulchoki as well to promote nature based tourism in the area.
