Suchit Basnet and Badri Chaudhary, our leaders and
ornithologists have found small population of Rufous-vented
Prinia in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. At the moment, the
Nepal Rare Birds Committee which is headed by famous
ornithologist Mrs Carol Inskipp is investigating subspecific
status of the bird.
Discovery of this species by Suchit and Badri has added one
more bird for Koshi (now at a high total of 485 birds) and
for Nepal (now the total is 863!).
Dr Hem Sagar Baral, founding member of our
organization and a well known ornithologist was awarded the
prestigious Whitely Award by Her Royal Highness Princess
Anne of the United Kingdom on 20 April 2005. The Award was
given to recognise and support Hem's work in Phulchoki as
well to promote nature based tourism in the area. The award
carries a cash prize of 30,000 British Pounds and is
administered by the
Whitley Fund for Nature.

his month long visit to the UK. The trip was kindly
